Longer Braided Hose

Postby rbh1515 » Thu Feb 25, 2010 6:44 pm

I got the longer braided hose from my vendor a couple of weeks ago. My machine has significantly quieted down. I have also re-lubricated the motor mounts and re-adjusted the t-nuts for the motor mounts. In the past when I have made adjustments, the machine would quiet down a bit for a day or two, then start vibrating again. I would definately recommend the longer braided hose.

I checked with CC today and was told that they expect a shipment from LM next week. So I have one with my name on it!

According to a post today on CG, LM is making these available at no charge through CC to GS/3 owners with older machines that have the vibration noise issue.

It was also mentioned that Chris has a video of how to replace this hose. However, it doesn't seem to be posted with all his other video yet. After looking it over, it doesn't look hard to figure out even w/o a video unless I am missing something.

Do you just let the new hose sit wherever it wants or did you use cable ties to hold it in place on either end?

I actually did cable tie it in place. I'll post a pic later.

Here is how I tied the hose. My machine is still vibration free.

I've had the longer hose installed for a couple of weeks. It's definitely an improvement -- I don't get the periodic loud buzz or heavy shaking anymore. But I find the noise and vibration still vary, and at times they're louder and more vigorous than I'd like. Sometimes the drain box rattles until I reseat it (this was before I plumbed-in the drain, which I just did yesterday), and the cups on the cup tray sometimes rattle unless I rearranged them or press down on them (the cup tray on my GS/3 fits extremely tight, much more so than the cup tray on the first GS/3 I had.) I tried a single cable tie to various positions in the machine, including the side post Rob used, but that ultimatley turned out to be worse. Will have to try two cable ties.

I should point out that the configuration of my GS/3 is a little different than Rob's. First, it's plumbed-in. I used the LM-provided cable tie to secure the input hose to the same post Rob used. Thus, it's more crowded in that area. Second, the output of my pump has a series of adapters, including a relatively tall F-F adapter. This raises the output hose, bringing it closer to the top of the machine and the thin copper pipes that feed the front panel gauges. It makes the hose curve a little sharper, too. Not sure if the adapters are part of the problem. Seems to be plenty of slack in the new hose.

Joe from LM-USA posted on CG that the longer hose is not a perfect fix. He said LM has developed a real fix, which is a plastic bushing between the motor and pump. However, this pushes the pump our far enough that a hole has to be cut in the left side panel. He said they don't have the bushings in stock. I posted a query about whether we could get the bushing and either swap left panels or buy the new ones. Joe didn't reply. Perhaps a more aggressive and direct approach is needed.

Another solution I'm considering for when the warranty runs out is to remote the motor and pump. As removing the motor requires major disassembly of the machine, I'd probably buy a second motor.

I would definately be interested in the bushing. The longer hose has been a big improvement, but I am getting very occasional vibration which goes away.
